Troubling Bible Contradiction
« on: May 23, 2008, 07:08:58 PM »

Dear Ariel:  I will make a few COMMENTS in your email:

From: Ariel

    Dear Ray,
I came across a very difficult and troubling Bible contradiction that makes me uneasy.

COMMENT: This topic undoubtedly made you feel "uneasy," but it is neither "difficult," "troubling," nor is it a "Bible contradiction."

Why did the Jehovah Lord of the Old Testament do what Jesus says no father would do?

COMMENT:  He didn't. That is your unwarranted assumption.

When the Children of Israel were extremely hungry and were asking for fish and bread, instead of providing them with the fish and the bread, he gave them fiery serpents which bit them with killing bites. (Numbers 21:6)

COMMENT:  Your entire statement is false and unscriptural. Let's read Num. 21:6.........

Num 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Okay, there the part about the serpents, were is the part about, "When the Children of Israel were extremely hungry and were asking for fish and bread, instead of providing them with the fish and the bread....?"  Where do we read that they were "extremely hungry?"  Where do we read that they asked for "fish and bread?"  Where?  You made that up just to give more credence to your false premise.  What are the facts?
    They were not "extremely hungry."
They did not ask for "fish and bread."
There are no fish in the desert wilderness.
    Let's read the previous verse:

Num 21:5 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loaths this light BREAD.

Of course, there is no "water" or "bread" in the wilderness. Bread does not grow on desert trees, nor are there springs of  cool running water all over the desert. But God did miraculously de both water and bread for them. Notice even in this verse, they did have bread, albeit they did not like the "light bread" that God provided for them. So your statements are false.

Matthew 7:9: What man is there of you, whom if his son asks for bread, will he give him a stone?
10: Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11: If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12: Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

Jesus made a statement there which opposes this Old Testament Lord's actions. Even an evil man will give goo d gifts to his children. Yet this god who kept hanging around the Children of Israel, when they grew hungry and asked for fish and bread, he went on a frightful killing rampage.

COMMENT: No, Jesus did not. They clearly did NOT as for "fish and bread" as you suggest. And when you demean Jehovah God of the book of Numbers to a lower case "god," you are not only falsely accusing God, but you are now condemning Him! Furthermore, when you learn the truth one day, you will realize that this "god" found in the book of Numbers was none other that JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF. That "god" you refer to was that "SPIRITUAL ROCK," spoken of by Paul, and that Rock was CHRIST:

1Co 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
You then suggest that because they were so hunger and had no bread to eat, that when they requested "fish and bread," God "went on a frightful killing rampage." You are out of line, Ariel.  Even though you cannot recognize their gross sin before God, the people themselves DID.  Do you ever bother to read the verses that come before and after a verse you are studying?

Num 21:7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said,  WE HAVE SINNED,  for WE HAVE SPOKEN AGAINST THE LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
The people of Israel recognized their own sin, why can't you recognize it?

Jesus also said that Satan comes as a killer and destroyer. I believe that Jesus was quietly telling the people that the god whom they were worshiworshipingot the Father in heaven.

COMMENT:  Well, you believe wrongly, and you will have to give account for your words one day.

Later the Israelites were made to worship the image of a serpent of brass to save their lives.

COMMENT:  That's a lie, Ariel. Read it:

Num 21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

Num 21:9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
They were to "look" upon the serpent, NOT WORSHIP IT.  It was a reminder of their sin, and then God healed them.

Why would God make the Israelites worship a serpent? This seems like Satan posing as God.

COMMENT:  Where do you see the word "worship" in any of those Scriptures? God did not make Israel worship a serpent. That's nuts.
